Entry Requirements
Good honours degree in a subject related to biology or biotechnology.
Candidates without these qualifications will be considered for entry by assessing levels of professional experience and skills, using School based procedures for APL. For students whose first language is not English, a standard of written and spoken English equivalent to IELTS 6.0 is required. Candidates must achieve a IELTS minimum score of 6 in the written test as well as in the overall assessment.
Curriculum
Semester 1 - students will study a variety of subjects related to different aspects of biotechnology including genes and genomes, gene technology, bioremediation, food and people and can also take courses to improve their English language proficiency if required.
Semester 2 - students will study DNA database mining, plant biotechnology and will gain practical experience in advanced laboratory skills. At the end of semester 2 studfents will undertake a research project (ten week duration) supervised by a member of academic staff related to the particular aspect of biotechnology of most interest to the student.
