Wednesday, March 30, 2016 - For the sixth year running, the University hosted the Donors and Scholars Lunch on Friday 18 March. The lunch brought together scholarship recipients and alumni, friends and trusts who generously give in aid of scholarships.
Last year alone, 110 donors generously donated over £120,000 in aid of scholarships that have in turn helped more than 100 students; from postgraduates to those in junior academies. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Peter John, thanked the donors for their continued support and for making a real difference to student lives as they work towards realising their education and career goals.
The lunch was prepared and served by students of the London College of Hospitality and Tourism. Katarina Kostrevc, recipient of the Mona Blackman Scholarship, gave an outstanding performance on Violin of the 1st Movement from Cesar Franck’s Violin Sonata in A Major - wonderfully accompanied by Natasa Sarcevic on piano.
At the event, Claudia Duduman, recipient of the Alistair Telfer Award, and in her first year of studying for a BA (Hons) degree in International Hotel Management at the London College of Hospitality and Tourism, gave a short speech. She spoke about how she came from a different educational background, and how the award has helped to build her confidence, and has ensured that she can focus on her future. On behalf of all students who have received scholarships and bursaries, she thanked the donors for their generosity, kindness and invaluable support.
