Entry Requirements
- SQA Highers: BBBC, including English at B plus Maths at Standard Grade 3 or above, Intermediate 2 or National 4.
- GCE A-Levels: CCC plus GCSE English plus Maths at Standard Grade 3 or above, Intermediate 2 or National 4.
- Irish Leaving Certificate: BBBC including English plus Maths at Ordinary Level grade C.
- International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma: 24 points (to include 2 Higher subjects at 4 points).
Curriculum
Year 1
You will be introduced to fundamental aspects of digital filmmaking and writing for the screen. Creative and technical skills are developed in modules covering video production and creative writing and you can take modules that complement practical filmmaking.
Year 2
You will further develop creative skills in the contrasting contexts of fiction and documentary production and will benefit from specialised teaching in script-writing. Skills of critical analysis, research and writing can be developed in film studies modules.
Year 3
You will engage in more ambitious filmmaking and script-writing projects and can continue to develop critical skills by studying contemporary Hollywood filmmaking and by engaging with key theoretical perspectives and research techniques. You have the option of undertaking a work experience module to gain industry experience (placement organisations have included STV, BBC Scotland, and Glasgow Film Theatre).
Year 4
Central to studies are two double modules: the creative project in which you develop a folio of creative work; and the Honours dissertation, a research project on an aspect of filmmaking which is of particular interest to you. A core module in film producing is taken by all students. You can also choose from a range of film studies and creative practice options.
