Australian Foreign Minister at the High Commission in KL.
Taylor's University aims to be well-connected with the international community right here in Kuala Lumpur – which also helps us to make more connections overseas. Earlier this year we were invited by the Australian High Commissioner, H. E. Rod Smith to meet with the Australian Foreign Minister the Hon. Julie Bishop, for a launch of the 'New Colombo Plan' in Malaysia. We have already been pleased to welcome some Australian students from the University of Adelaide at Taylor’s University who have been able to access this funding.
More recently, His Excellency, Issop Patel, the High Commissioner (Ambassador) of High Commissioner (Ambassador) of Mauritius, visited Taylor's University Lakeside Campus. Over the year's Taylor's has had many students from Mauritius, and we have a very active Taylor's Mauritian Student Society who also put on a wide–selection of cultural events and displays. The High Commissioner not only met with senior staff at Taylor's University, but also with a group of Mauritian students.
Mr. Rueben Arthur, one of our food and beverage lecturing staff in the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts (HCTA) has been assisting the Embassy of Peru as they look at how to improve the recognition of Peruvian agricultural products in Malaysia, and to raise the profile of Peru as a tourism destination. He recently organised a 'trade and tourism' meeting and dinner with Jose Bustinza, Minister Charge d'Affairs, at the Residence of the Ambassador of Peru. A number of Taylor's academics were invited, including Prof. Dato Victor Wee and Prof. Perry Hobson.
On yet another recent occasion, Prof. Perry Hobson, the PVC for Global Engagement, attended the Great British Ball at the Shangri-la hotel. This annual event was graced by Mrs. Victoria Treadwell CMG MVO, the British High Commissioner to Malaysia. Two Guardsmen (one from the Coldstream Guards and one from the Irish Guards) who had been especially flown over from guard duty at Buckingham Palace for this event. We look forward to expanding our links with other countries and their representatives here in KL.
