About
Xiamen University (XMU) has been at the forefront of maritime research in China for over a century. Established in 1946, the Department of Oceanography is the first of its kind in China. The College of Ocean and Earth Sciences is a top marine research institution with a focus on marine science. The faculty includes two academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and experts from China's "Thousand Talents Plan," a global recruitment program.
The college has excellent research platforms, including the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science and the State-Province Joint Engineering Laboratory of Marine Bioproducts and Technology. It also has an outstanding educational centre, the National Experimental Centre for Education, and an advanced general-purpose research vessel with cutting-edge scientific instruments for interdisciplinary oceanographic cruises in international waters. The Marine Biotechnology program at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) will receive support from XMU and the China-ASEAN College of Marine Sciences, which is supported by the China-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation Fund. It aims to develop professionals capable of promoting marine development in ASEAN countries and fostering interactions between China, ASEAN countries, and the international community.

Entry Requirements
Any of these:
- A Bachelor degree of Marine Biotechnology or Marine Science or Biotechnology or any other relevant fields with minimum CGPA of 2.75 or the equivalent, as accepted by the Senate; OR
- A Bachelor degree of Marine Biotechnology or Marine Science or Biotechnology or any other relevant fields with CGPA between 2.50 and 2.75, can be accepted subject to internal assessment; OR
- A Bachelor degree of Marine Biotechnology or Marine Science or Biotechnology or any other relevant fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.50, can be accepted subject to a minimum of 5 years’ working experience in a relevant field.
