Curriculum

This modular course will give you a sound knowledge of both the practical and the theoretical aspects of the specialist area of toxicology, with special attention paid to the molecular level.

The focus of the course is not simply on gaining in-depth current knowledge but also on the methodology used in obtaining that knowledge. We make use of recent research papers to inform class discussion.

In addition to taught modules in the field, we will also give you training in research processes. This culminates in an individual research project which will give you the opportunity to demonstrate your own particular skills and abilities.

For your MSc you will take four taught modules – Toxicology, Applied Toxicology, Research Skills and your chosen topic of study for the optional module. You will then complete your individual research project.

“Having an optional module means you can choose your own area of interest,” says Course Leader and Principal Lecturer Dr Winston Morgan.

“You might be interested in how drugs affect the immune system, so you choose an immunology module. Or you might decide you are interested in toxins and bacteria and so you do a microbiology module. If you’re interested in the molecular aspects of toxicology you do a biotechnology module”

For a Postgraduate Diploma you would take the MSc course minus the research project.

For a PG Certificate, which is one year part-time, you will need to complete two modules.
