Entry Requirements
Day Course
- No formal course pre-requisites
- Completed Year 11 or equivalent;
- Basic math skills
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
- A good command of the English language, both written and oral.
- Applicants will be assessed to determine if any prior training is required in respect of Language, Literacy or Numeracy.
Evening Course
- No formal course pre-requisites
- One year or more working experience in the building and construction industry or in a closely related field. This experience could include project management, site co-ordination or owner builder projects;
- Basic Computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel;
- A good command of the English language, both written and oral;
- Have an understanding of building processes including knowledge of the roles and functions of various tradespersons and professionals working in the building industry;
- Applicants will be assessed to determine if any prior training is required in respect of Language, Literacy or Numeracy;
Curriculum
EVENING COURSE
Course Based Training
The Certificate IV in Building & Construction (Building) is undertaken over 6 months (not including any planned semester breaks). It is offered outside normal working hours for the convenience of working people and is presented as a combination of classroom based learning covering 11 learning modules, 6 practical projects conducted in real workplace environments and 10 tutorials. Additional presentations from three guest speakers who are experts in their respective fields are also scheduled.

A Builders’ Registration Workshop program is conducted post-course, usually in month 8, 9 or 10 depending on the needs of its participants. The workshop takes place over two weekends to assist graduates who are intending to submit applications to the Victorian Building Authority to undertake the processes leading to registration as a Domestic Builder.

Course Based Training
The Cert IV in Building & Construction (Building) is undertaken over 12 months (including planned semester breaks) at our campus in Williamstown North. It is presented as a combination of classroom based learning, selected workplace based practice in the TIV workshops that closely simulate the workplace environment, and supervised on-site inspections and visits in the real work environment. This course is designed for students with limited to no experience in the Building & Construction industry.
