EdUHK Wins Grand Prize at iCAN 2024 Achieves the Best Performance among Hong Kong Universities

EdUHK’s outstanding performance saw it take home a total of 18 awards for nine projects, including the prestigious Grand Prize, five Gold Medals, four Silver Medals, the Organiser’s Choice Award, the Jury’s Choice Award, the Top 20 Best Invention Award, and five Special Awards. This extraordinary feat showcases EdUHK’s pioneering capabilities in health technology, educational technology, and sustainable development.
Grand Prize-Winning Innovation in Healthcare
The Grand Prize, the competition's highest honor, went to the “Automatic Screening System for Mild Cognitive Impairment and Dementia with Auditory Tasks,” a project led by Dr. Anna Kam Chi-shan, Associate Professor at the Department of Special Education and Counselling. This healthcare innovation is a system designed to perform hearing checks and screen for mild cognitive impairment and dementia in elderly community members, winning both the Grand Prize and a Gold Medal.
Other Key Award-Winning Projects
EdUHK’s other award-winning innovations reflect its broad expertise and contributions to society. The Social Robot project, led by Professor Susanna Yeung Siu-sze, Associate Vice President (Quality Assurance) and Professor in the Department of Psychology, received the Jury’s Choice Award and a Gold Medal. Another distinguished project, I-well Home, led by Professor Leung Chi-hung from the Department of Special Education and Counselling, earned both the Top 20 Best Invention Award and a Gold Medal. These awards highlight EdUHK’s commitment to fostering smart city solutions, educational advancement, and quality of life improvements.
